Having just revisited Building the Curriculum 1, my attention has been drawn to the use of the lines of development. Whilst the exact meaning of this phrase can be debated, its use with BtC1 is, I find, very helpful in decluttering our curriculum content.
For each of the 8 curricular areas, a sub-set of learning foci are listed. These help reduce the amount of content that we feel pressured to deliver.
I intend to revisit these lines of development with staff and encourage them to reflect on their influence on our planning approaches.
In addition to the lines of development there is also the Principles and Practice papers.
